Tandav- Series Review

In the struggle of keeping the show contemporary, they ditched the uniqueness.

TANDAV web series on Amazon Prime is a 9 episodes series and each episode is roughly 40 minutes. This web series is a prime example of how Indian political shows revolve around only a few things. This show had a good cast and average dialogue writing but the show tried to keep itself contemporary and, in that struggle, its uniqueness died. The show revolves around two things one is the story of Samar Pratap Singh who is the son of the Prime minister and he is ambitious and wants the prime ministership for himself and the second plot is about a college student who becomes active in politics because of some circumstances.

This series was criticized a lot because it hurt the sentiments of some Hindu organizations but I feel this web series was nowhere close to doing that it is a great example of how shows that are shot on politics revolve around only things such as the College Universities such as in this series is VNU which is an alias for JNU and second is caste this show is filled caste-related slurs around a Dalit character played by Anup Soni.

Tandav Controversial Scenes Explained: The Two Scenes Triggering a Mass Outrage

According to me this web series tried to break the normal web series spectrum but was nowhere close to doing so. If we talk about acting Saif Ali Khan, Sunil Grover and Dimple Kapadia have done a good job and I feel the character Guru pal is highly inspired by the character Doug Stamper from the show House of Cards. The whole show is somewhat inspired by the house of cards. Saif Ali Khan playing Frank Underwood and Sarah-Jane Dias playing Claire Underwood.

The show ended on a cliffhanger and would be coming back with a season 2 but seeing the response to the show I don’t think it would be coming back with a second season.

In the end, I would say this show is a good representation of how shows on politics shouldn’t be made and how shows need to diversify more on the story and not look for the same polarizing topics.

This show gets a 3/10 because of its cast and good acting.
